Finding Dups in different folders?

Postby EMMYROSCI » Fri Jul 23, 2010 4:58 pm

Hi! First off, I'd like to say this program has already saved me TONS of time and got rid of thousands of dups in my iTunes library. Awesome!

The second half of my mission to rid myself of all duplicate music is where I am having a problem. I'm not sure if this is something EDF can do... if not, I would like to submit it as a suggestion for a future release. Here's what I want to do:

1) I have my itunes library in the Music/iTunes directory.
2) I have a TON of other tracks in the Music directory (organized into artists/album folders). I know many of them are duplicates of songs that are in my iTunes folder.
3) When I run the scan in EDF, I have the app scan my "Music" directory, but it appears it is only finding duplicates within individual folders.

Is there a way EDF can compare files within different folders so it can find duplicates between my itunes and "other" music?

Thanks for your help!

Sure, you can do that now. EDF can compare files across many folders and many drives. You can compare at the byte, CRC or tag level. However be aware that native raw iTunes music files don't contain tags - so in those cases you would want to compare by byte or CRC. Currently the ID3 tags are supported in the following codecs only:
* FLAC Files (*.flac)
* MPEG Audio Files (*.mp3, *.mp2, *.mp3PRO)
* OGG Files (*.ogg)
* WAVE Files (*.wav)
* Windows Media Audio Files (*.wma)
* Real Audio Files (*.RA, *.RM)

Check to make sure you have subfolders enabled in your Settings menu as well.
